Regulating Step Therapy Practices
(VIDEO) Thursday, patient advocates called on legislators to regulate an insurance practice known as step therapy, or fail first. Step therapy requires patients to try less expensive or more established medications to see if they will work before the insurance company will cover the ones prescribed by their doctors. There’s currently a bill to create an appeal process. Kathllen Arnsten, the President and CEO of the Lupus and Allied Disease Association, Patrick Stone, the National Psoriasis Foundation’s state government relations manager, and Paul Gileno, founder and president of the US Pain Foundation, joined us to discuss.
